BEST PRACTICES: Want a hack to juggle the many projects in your life? Try CATEGORIES in Task.it

CATEGORIES are your mastery move to keep multiple projects moving forward.

Categories in task.it are tags you add to an item. This means a task can have one or more categories.

One of the easiest uses of categories is to divide tasks by various projects. “HOME”, “SCHOOL”, “WORK” as categories can help ensure you are making progress on all three areas. You can put high ranking tasks into each to ensure you are equally targeting each area.

Alternatively, simply look at the “All Tasks” web summary and choose “GROUP BY CATEGORY” in Task.it and you can see what tasks have been assigned to what category.

There are two ways to add categoris:

  1. You can assign categories by using the web interface when adding new tasks or editing old ones

  2. Add categories directly onto a task on your calendar. Below the activation keyword “task.it” in the notes section on a calendar item, simply add the command word and the category desired. For example, “CATEGORY work” or, if you want multiple categories, “CATEGORY home, pet”

For those who like to set time based goals, such as Bullet Journaling fans, you can use categories to add categories around those time based goals. For example, “CATEGORY home, month” or “CATEGORY home, quarter” can highlight goals for the month or the quarter. “CATEGORY year, personal, marathon” could represent all the tasks for the year as you prepare for a marathon.

Take any event on your calendar and “task.it” with categories to up your task completion game.
